Santa Cruz City
In January 2021, MBEP endorsed Cedar Street Apartments, a proposed affordable mixed-use housing development, currently being developed as a joint venture between Pacific Union Partners, Milestone Housing, and Pacific Housing, that would address a critical need for affordable and supportive housing in Downtown Santa Cruz and could serve as a model project for encouraging alternative modes of transportation as part of MBEP’s Climate Change Initiative.
The project, near the Santa Cruz Metro Station, would bring 65 rental units, 25 percent of which would be designed for supportive housing, with a 200-square-foot onsite facility to serve community members. Currently, a city-leased parking lot, the site at 524 Cedar St. has been approved for AB 2162, which streamlines the approval of supportive housing in zones where multifamily and mixed-used development is permitted.
